So the much anticipated movie of the decade, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here, and no doubt you rushed to the theatre to see it right away. Unlike the prequels, this sequel to the originals did not disappoint. If anything, it left fans wanting more. And guess what, you’re in luck because we have here for you 10 hidden secrets from the film’s plot that every die-hard Star Wars fan just has to know. Check ‘em out…
Luke’s Larger Role
By now you noticed that Luke Skywalker only gets less than a minute of air time at the end of episode 7: The Force Awakens. This is because the film’s screenwriter didn’t want Luke overshadowing the new character’s being introduced. This of course will no doubt keep the suspense going for episode 8 when it comes out next year.
The Other Chewbacca
Peter Mayhew has been the man in the Chewbacca suit since the first film, which means like the rest of the original cast, he’s getting up there in age and is limited in what he can do in the furry suit. Therefore a 2nd Chewbacca was cast to perform in all of Chewy’s actions scenes.
RIP Poe Dameron
Oscar Issac who plays the film’s Han Solo for a new generation (Poe Dameron) was supposed to be killed off in the film, which made Issac hesitant to take on the new role. But he and J.J. Abrams worked out a deal that saw Poe live through to the end.
In case you don’t know, TR-8R is the stormtrooper that duels it out with Finn on the battlefield towards the end. His back story is that he and Finn trained together, and felt betrayed by Finn’s switch to the rebellion – hence the attack on the battlefield, which he loses.
Finn: Space Pirate
Little do many know, but Finn was originally cast to play a space pirate (just like Han Solo), but changes later to the script gave his character more depth by making him a Stormtrooper that defects, becoming one of the good guys.
Captain Phasma was originally supposed to be a male. But changes made to the film early on turned Phasma into a female. While much wasn’t made about her, she’ll no doubt be making an appearance in episode 8 to reveal more of her character.
Anakin’s Force Ghost
The film was so close to bringing back Hayden Christensen as a Darth Vader force ghost. Thankfully the idea was scrapped, as it would have tied this great sequel with those prequels that everyone wishes they could forever forget, as well as subjecting us all to more of Christensen’s terrible acting.
Everyone’s curious as to how Maz Kanata came into possession of Luke’s lightsaber. The original script had her stealing it from Kylo Ren, but was then changed to her saying in the film that “it’s a story for another day”. We’ll have to stay tuned until episode 8 when that secret is revealed.
C-3PO’s Red Arm
C-3PO made an appearance with a strange new red left arm. The reason is unclear. What is known is that Anthony Daniels and J.J. Abrams had disagreements about it, to which in the final scene, the red arm is gone and is replaced with the original golden one. Very strange.
Kylo Ren’s Table Of Ashes
Half way through the film, Kylo Ren reveals his face to Rey by taking off his mask and placing it on a table of ashes. But, why ashes? Well as the story would have it, Kylo has been keeping the remains of all of the victims he’s killed, turning them into ashes he prefers to rest his helmet on. Very freaky.
